UPDATE: Tech says he drained 5 gallons of water off of the fuel this morning.

Correct me if I'm mistaken but:

1 - Shouldn't that have thrown a light and/or a code, the other 4 we have had had a water in fuel light. Still, maybe it all came from one fill up and hit all at once

2- Shouldn't the tech have found that on day 1?

OH!! and how's this for customer service. Not only no car, no room for the night. They made my 60 year old father walk a mile in the winter (Elko was 32F /8 F last night) to a motel. No shuttle ride. Just plain garbage customer service.

Now he hunts and keeps some gear in the truck. But what if he didn't have gear or wasn't up to the task.

i say call ford customer care and complain their ears off, no one should be treated that way. If they made my dad do that i would have the BBB and Ford on their **** in a second. And yes the dash should say water in fuel before it reaches half or 1 gallon. My dealer atleast offers a shuttle if they know the work is going to take more than hour, that is standard for all dealers and if they did not do it then they should get the worst rating ford can offer

Oh forgot to add, this thread was made 2 days ago, it took 2 days for a tech to remember to drain the water extracter, 2 DAYS for something that even in the handbook says to do atleast every 2 - 3 weeks, that is something that goes into basic diagnostics and maintenance. That is just messed up

I got a message in the message center on mine one time that said "Water in Fuel". Took it in immediately, in St. Louis, MO. There was no water in fuel, just another erroneous message.

how big is your tank? because five gallons of water on like 40 gal.s (20%) of water is way extreme. the fuel station needs to be notified if nothing else. That sounds like dealer b.s. to me, but that is just my .02

all that water but ford trucks are junk.

I still think that 5 gallons is tech BS, he's covering something up IMHO, and a few people here seem to agree.

We're working with our insurance company and Ford now to see if we can't get the truck here.

Did he just put fuel in it? I had the same thing happen to me, just filled up and made it about 1/4 mile, died like it was shut off with the key. Sat there and thought about it a bit, then went under the truck and drained the water separator. Pure water.
Had it towed in, was full of water. Station had a problem with their tanks, their insurance paid for everything. Water in fuel light did not come on when this happened but did come on every few miles after the dealer cleaned out the tank, had to drain about 8 oz of water out each time till it finally got all water out of the system.

08 F-450 400 miles. I wasn't happy.

Something about this sounds terribly fishy. It sounds like hitler was working at the dealer if they told a 60 y.o. man to take a hike in the freezing winter! thats terribly sickening, but then again i cannot STAND fords customer service but love their product. As for the mechanical stuff? Id go right to the station and raise some hell! goodluck - i always try to get fuel where alot of trucks fill up - therefore keeping the tanks fresh. Gas stations that dont sell alot of diesel tend to get water condensation on the walls and hence - water in the fuel.

maybe the man came thru the door with an attitude.

still, if you spend 50 large on a truck they should take you downtown to buy crack if you want.

My pops has anything but an attitude. As for the gas station, he's been getting diesel at that one for the last fifteen years with no problems. We'll see what happens tomorrow when the truck shows up to a seatlership that knows they're not the only game in town...
