This may be the appropriate forum to ask, if you have faulty ABS sensor on the front hubs of a 4x4 F250 SD, can it be changed out our do i need a whole new hub bearing assembly with the sensor in it? Advance auto and autozone claim the only way to fix it is a new hub bearing... but they are also the same people who asked me for the year, make, and model of a torque wrench.
I honestly have not repelaced an ABS sensor on a SD, however, I've done it on other cars and I can't believe Ford would be that dumb to design a non-removable ABS sensor. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in, but I'm 98% sure that they are full of crap telling you that the whole hub has to be replaced.

I've replaced a few hub assemblies and they all came with new ABS sensors already included. There was a cable attached to the assembly that could not be removed. I couldn't find a way to remove one from the old hub so it appears to be a true statement.

Wow. I must say I'm quite surprised, that doesn't seem like a terribly smart design.
Or the previous owner might've removed the light after cutting the wires. My 02 has three ABS sensors (which also control the speedo). One for each front wheel and one for the rear diff. Whenever I unhook any of them, I get an ABS light. There should be a connector for the front ABS, attached to the plastic wheel well, on what would be the firewall side.
My ABS light will sometimes illuminate while driving in the sand or snow. Apparently the computer gets confused when one sensor reads 20 MPH and the others don't... HA!
I had this happen to me just the other day. My sister rolled her car so we were in a field full of snow trying to get it out. After getting the car on the trailer we had a heck of a time getting back up to the high way out of the field. After we got back on the road I noticed the ABS light was on. Turned the engine off and back on and it hasn't come on since.....knock on wood...
Unfortunately, the wheel speed sensor gets its pulse signal off a "Wheel Speed Sensor Ring" which is pressed on the disc hub. If that is the actual problem, then that can be a pain.

The problem originated when I follewed the above directions to remove the wheel speed sensor, I unbolted it, and then it was still seized in the hub. THe applicaton of a greater force broke it. I don't know how to get the old one out now
