Well my new 4" drop pitman arm came in yesterday and I took off work today about 11:30 to go finish my 79 F250 D60 swap. Im getting all excited and working like a mad man trying to get this thing on and its just not going to work! Ive cussed Ive thrown chit Ive drank....nothing works! The way it looks Im going to have to use a stock 79 F150/bronco arm. The 4" drop arm is going to make the drag link bind. My solution just to get it back on the road was use a stock F250 arm (one that hasnt been reamed) and go back to the push/pull steering with out any of the crossover/highsteer junk on for now. Well that wont work either. The drag link is at almost a 45* angle and I only have about 20* of steering. Does anyone have a 79 F150/Bronco steering arm laying around and access to a 8* reamer? Im getting rather frustrated....no....pissed is a more fitting word.
Guys when Im done. I will do the most detailed MFer of a tech article the world has ever seen so NOONE will have any trouble what so ever when doing crossover on a 79 F250!
Damn……that sucks something fierce, can you explain more how the drop pitman arm is making the drag link in a bind….WE NEED PICS!!!....what exactly is the problem with all pitman arms you’ve tried?, is it hitting something?
To be honnest the drop pitman arm is in the field beside my house
Its hard to explain exactly. It seems like the tre would be better if is was installed from the top rather than the bottom. Ill go back outside...find the pitman arm...its heavy so I couldnt have thrown it far.....and put it all back together...and get some pics asap. It might be tomorrow though.
Oh...
Stock F250 dogleg arm hits the crossmember when turning left. 4" drop arm just plain sucks. So Im assuming the stock F150 arm which is straight will work better.

im more of a person that puches chit and hurts myself....im to damn lazy to chase somthing i threw....hahaha...
i dont see if a drop pitman arm is making the tre bind, how is a larger angle on the draglink stop it from binding?.....time for some heims with high misallignment spacers, then you wouldn't need a reamer....
you need to hurry and get this thing done for mudfest!!!!!!!
I just got done with a search and everyone "says" they are either using a stock arm...impossible....or a 4" arm. A 4" arm is too much of a drop with just a 4" lift. Maybe I should lift the truck 8" and forget it. Alright guys Im leaving to look for the arm and get as much done as possible before dark.
PS...have you ever heard of a D60 making a truck sit a little lower than a D44hd? Maybe Im losing it but when I backed the truck out the shed a little bit ago it seemed a little lower in the front than it used to be. Maybe just 1/2-3/4"
Quad the drop arm makes the drag link have a negative angle. In other words the passenger side crossover arm is higher than the bottom of the pitman arm.

damn!!....ive never heard of that problem, just go 8" lift on 44's....

PLEASE DO!
I have the same intentions on doing the 60/x over steering swap on my 79 250. Although I have 6"s of lift I know that I would still have gremlins (like your having).
Nothing ever goes like it should for me either, and I'm a mechanic for a living, it seems that all of the goofy/odd problems happen on my own vehicles, not the customer's.
Hang in there man. One day soon it'll all pay off !
