i've done a couple x overs, is the pass tie rod under the arm or on top? 4" arm will work on stock if its under, anything higher needs the tie rod on top

I don't know that steering arm you have ? But when I got a cross over kit from O.R.U. they sent a low arm first. It was wrong for 10" of lift so they sent a raised arm. Maby you need to low arm ? Give them a call they were very helpful.

I guess I was doing a terrible job of explaining earlier. I was pissed off and half tight. The problem Im having is with crossover in conjunction with highsteer. The stock dogleg pitman arm hits the highsteer tie rod when you put the chevy tre in the hole. The drop pitman arm hits the tie rod and there is no room for the tre to be mounted. I am going to do away with the highsteer all together because there is NO WAY a 79 F250 can run it with less than 8-10" lift. If anyone has it (or says they have it) I am calling BS. When I use the 4" drop arm the drag link is completely horizontal if not 1-2* negative angle.

Cuz,
I have no idea what you are talking about. The drag link always goes over the xover steering arm and under the pitman arm.

WOW...................as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Those pics are worth a million, they really clear it up.

Good pics, I just don't know what the solution is...that sucks.

ok, heres my suggestion now that we see a little more....

1. run the tie rod under the high steer arm, i know dont makes sense but gives you clearance that it looks like you need.....

2. what i would do with the pitman arm is somthing like this.....with my mad ms paint skills....

or you could always......

lift it

and

slap some rockwells under it with full hydro!!!!!

pics solve the confusion, I was talking about the drag link not tie rod, my mistake, thought draglink was binding on itself, i wouldn't shorten the pitman arm, will reduce turning radius, try a pitman arm off of a dodge 4x, sector shaft splines match but arm is straighter with less drop

on the high steer setups i have seen (here is one from offroad design ), the draglink goes in front of the the centerlink, still tight but may clear what your running into now http://www.offroaddesign.com/Dana60crossover.htm

Quad you are mad skillfull with paint! Maybe this pics will help more. If the pitman arm is any shorter the drag link will hit the crossmember. The best I can figure is that the only solution is having a pitman arm that is roughly a foot long from sector shaft hole to tre hole. That is the only way it will both clear the crossmember and clear the tie rod. Having highsteer wasnt a necessity. I just thought it was cool. I got the steering arms at such a good deal it was pointless to go somewhere else and buy just one and I already had 21' of DOM so I said what the hell.

Maybe you can see in this pic that the crossmember is right in the way.

At this point I can see my only option is build a tube chassis for my truck and slap some rocks under it!

Oh you can also see that if I installed the tie rod from the underside it would hit the leaf springs.

Buzzbait,
One fatal flaw in ORU is that they never show a 79 ford F250 with their components installed. Its always on 80s model chevys. Maybe I can email them and ask for a pic of one installed on a ford....couldnt hurt

That high steer link is gonna hit the crossmember with any amount of compression anyways, I'd get rid of that till you do more lift. Or cut out the crossmember and build something that isn't in the way of everything. It couldn't possibly be in a worse spot

I may be bad mistaken but all the Ford trucks I have worked on the pitman arm pointed forward (except for the early Bronco Box). I know to do a conversion to power steering on a early bronco using a box from a 4X4 truck you have to change the sector shaft to make it rotate to the other direction. The 2X4 boxes rotate the right direction. If you lay under the truck and have someone turn the steering wheel left and the sector shaft turns counter clockwise the pitman arms goes on pointting to the front, If it turns clockwise thr pitman arm points to the rear. As I said I may be Bad wrong, so Please don't give me much H **L.

I thought the same thing, but that would put the drag link really far away from the axle.

Looks like you need more lift
