P0171 Code Help
First off, let me say: Thanks for the help so far, ya'll have been great.
Now: I just changed out the motors in my father in-law's 99' ranger. It's the four cyl (8 spark plugs! ). The truck has 210K miles on it. The replacement motor came from a local salvage yard and supposedly only has 60K miles on it.
The EGR Tubes on the old and new engines are rotten through, so there is an exhaust leak from there. I should be replacing that soon (unless I can just block it off....)
The other day, my MIL said she couldnt get the truck started. I finaly got a chance to go over there and look at it. It cranked over (slowly) and after jumping it off of my POS Saturn it started right up.
The truck CEL was on, so I drove over to Autozone and had it pulled. Its a P0171. The truck is stumbaling a little and will stall out if you try to turn the wheel's while stoped and ideling.
I did a search and it seems that these codes are common in cold weather due to gaskets and O-rings shrinking.
My plan of attack so far is:
1) Clean MAF sensor (What do you use to clean these? I have a feeling its NOT brake cleaner!)
2) Change the intake manifold gaskets
3) Change Injector O-Rings
4) Swap the injectors and coil packs from the old motor (Its sitting in the garage waiting to be stripped for salvage)
5).......????
Am I way out of line here? Please set me straight!
TIA
Billy
