only bad thing about BTS is shipping
I /// SNIP ///BTS except for shipping which I think where I am is about $1k both ways
I think you were getting hosed by someone (NOT BTS). BTS charged me $200 some bucks total for shipment here and back to Indiana. This is to a commercial address (work). BTS forwards on their freight discount to their customers. I'm 11 hours away from Arkansas and made the trip once w/ my brother for his Excursion. Awesome thing to see, but so glad I had my trans shipped to me. Very easy to install w/ the right tools.

when I checked was over $500 one way, think its about 1200 mi
Honestly - that was probably "List" rate, not discounted. Most freight companies offer 72%-85% discount off List. Sorry to be off topic - I do a lot of freight work for our company, so it's something I pick a part ALOT!
Back on Topic - it took me a month for my BTS (that's was the quickest he could schedule to build me one). Like mentioned though, it's one of the best and I know I'll never have to do it again. "Pay big once or pay it a few times"
Talked to Brian (BTS), said the 01"s tranny is a bomb ready to go off! I explained my problem and what took place when it quit. He said it was the tranny, usually second gear going first then dominoes there-after. Installs his rebuilt for free if I can get it there or $3900. + shipping. Ark. not far from me. Now all I need to do is figure out how to get my truck there. Guess I'll call some truck rental outfits. Hope yall"s Xmas goes better than it has around here! HoHo
I'm sure Brian makes a great transmission and if money wern't an issue I'd love to have one of his, but reality and a budget dictate that I find another option. In reality I don't need the uber performance that the BTS delivers, I haul an 18' open bow in the summer months and an 18' trailer with my antique tractor occasionally. The truck with a good stock transmission is already overkill for most of my needs. When my torque convertor failed and the Ford dealership failed to diagnos it until the third overheating resulting in a transmission failure I looked around for a reputable local transmission rebuilder. I live in a fairly rural area where people who don't do good work don't stay in business long. Everyone I talked to pointed me to one guy whoes been doing ONLY transmission repairs for 19 years and was supposedly fantastic. After my experience with the dealership which cost me $1800 and still left me without a trans I was gun shy, but I didn't have much choice so I trusted those I'd asked and took it to Tom. He told me up front how much it would be and three days and $1900 dollars later he had me rolling again. When I went to his shop (he stayed an hour late to accomidate my schedule) he had saved every piece of the trans and took nearly an hour going over all the parts; pointing out what had failed and why. Telling me what he'd upgraded like boost actuators and such and why and what difference I should expect. I've put about a 1K miles on his transmission (I call it his because the only thing original is the case) and it NEVER felt this good. Very positive shifts, great pulling torque, etc. He also put in an upgraded torque convertor and a new, larger OTA cooler and lines. My point here is that while I'm sure every accolade Brain has recieved here is deserved, it is possible to find a guy locally that also does great work and won't rip you off. While I like to support our supporters I also believe in keeping my money in the local community. I also like the fact that if there is a problem I'm 8 miles from his front door. Just my two cents (that's about all I have left)
