99-04, or 05 to current?
I ask because with the early SD's with leaf springs really do not require a trac bar for lifts larger than 6 inches.
That is a pretty big spring, and is not going to allow the axle to move side to side.
If a later truck, many companies have them for sale individually, but know that some of the less expensive models have been tearing from the frame.

Again, I am confident you don't need a trac bar at all, if this is going on your 01 SD.
Did you buy a used lift kit or something? Maybe had springs made and was not a complete kit?

yeah I got a used kit and it was such a good deal that I didn't even check to see if everything was in there. From people I've asked they said that its a good idea to put it on. I'm just asking if this is something that I could easily add later without taking a lot of stuff apart. I'm still having trouble finding this part for a 6" lift. I'm looking for the bracket rather than the adjustable so if you know where I could buy one please let me know .

thanks!

Did you get a drop pitman arm?
Do you have a sway bar?
FWIW, I remove both on SD's with 6 inch springs or bigger. Folks say the trac bar is a good idea, but did they explain why? The whole purpose of the trac bar is to locate the axle, and the larger 6 inch springs are plenty stong enough to do that.
As far as whether or not you can add it later, does that mean you want to drive without it for now? If it drives fine, then why add it later? Deffinately will not change how it rides, although it will limit flex.
Can you fab? You can remove the stock bracket and use it as a guide to build a new one with a lower mount for the bar. Most aftermarket ones bolt right up, and if you are using the old one as a pattern you should be able to make one in a snap.

If it doesn't have a bump steer problem I wouldn't worry about it.
