I do a lot of driving in the country, need some help with extra lighting. I have an 05 F-150 sc, I know there is a gadget called brite box for the super duties which allow the high and low beams to be on at same time, is there such an animal for the f-150? I have searched this forum and a few others, but obviously I didn't put down the right words, or there isn't anythign on this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know about the box. But I would think you would want extended long range lighting, not lowbeam lighting? That's just going to light road right in front of the truck correct? A good high dollar set of driving lights may help more than anything. People will sell you anything as long as they can make money.
I agree with Dave. There are a ton of aftermarket lights out there. Most of them use the same bulbs, but it's the optics of the light fixture that determines the quality of the lighting. The cheapo fixtures are just that.
jumpin in here. before i go and update my headlights, will the little 18 ga wiring currently on them supply enough amps for more powerful lights? sorry for the thread piracy but it's a question in the same vein.

The factory wiring is really not big enough for the factory lights. Most people put a relay kit on the factory lights and get much better lighting without even changing the bulbs.
relay KIT? from any place specific like autozone or is it make-it-yourself project? if it's from the parts house, what would it be called other than relay kit. around here if you don't know the specific name of something the employees at the AZ will stare at you and drool. no offense to the AZ as a company.
oh, hell. you have more confidence in me than i do. i'll dig off into the intake but i am dumb on electrical. might as well be alien script. i do pictures better than diagrams. i'm gonna hafta study this one. where can i get the relays. the zone or the shack?

OK, here's an article that tells you how to do it. Problem is, the writer does not identify what truck he is doing it on. But it gives you the idea.
Be aware, that there will be more heat load on the lights and wiring and you might be well advised to do the relay conversion described in the link I posted above. When you draw out your diagram, another method of powering up both high and low beams will probably occur to you if you are elecrically inclined.
In any event, the post above (for adding relays,) is about the same system you will use to wire up auxillery lights such as fog lights of driving lights except that you will use a separate switch for the additional lights.

You just need some 14 gauge wire in a couple of colors, spade connectors and some twenty or thirty amp Bosch relays. Also get a small fuse panel or some inline fuse holders. Got a good quality set of crimpers? Get some shrink tubing and some small wire ties to make it all neat.

Here's the ones I use for everything from soup to nuts (automotive)... and good ebay seller to deal with...
I am soooooooo confused, I've read about relay kits, wire sizes, etc. But how does the average guy who just wants to see better at night while driving through deer infested countryside get better lighting, without overloading the rating of the wiring that came stock in the truck? Can I buy a wiring harness to replace stock and then use silverstar bulbs in headlights and fogs?
