OK, here's the story for those who may not be aware...
My 93 Escort was dying...I limped into a car dealer and purchased an 07 Focus.
Due to ....um, ah... "credit issues", the dealership paid me WAY too much money for my little Escort.
It's been just over a month...and now I've got a chance to buy the Escort back. Yes, THAT escort.
Dealer A gave me $2,500 for the car. Dealer B wants to sell it to me for $1,000. The way I see it, I'd have made $1,500 in the deal, and my beloved little Escort will be back in the driveway. Still not healthy, but I can work on it in my leisure as I now have the Focus.
Or am I just an idiot?
Vote up. Vote quickly. (And if you live in Chicago, vote often... )
Just wondering.....If it was bad enough to sell in the first place, Why would you want it back.? Sentimental reasons aside, Do you really want to work on it Again.???
Um...no. I LOVED that car. I do, however, have to get to work. And after I blew the head (I think) the car was bucking, rocking and blowing smoke out of both ends...and if it WERE to just "die", I'd be screwed.
So, I traded it in.
Now, I have the opportunity to buy it back, without depending on it. i.e., if it dies, I get a ride home and I'm good to go.

Quit editting, smartazz!!!
Actually, working on it WITHOUT needing to drive it to work in an hour was always pleasant...trouble is, since my divorce, I've mostly "HAD TO" have the car on the road...couldn't take the time to take it down and fix it properly.
I voted yes for one reason, a vehicle, any vehicle regardless of make or model that will get you from point a to b, in my opinion is worth a grand. You probally know what is wrong with it and what it will take to fix it. After you fix it, assuming it is not that bad off, you could sell it for quite a profit with gas prices steadily rising. Any vehicle that gets close to 30mpg will be hard to find this time next year. I bought a "cussword" sentra for $300 and put a $65 junkyard head on it along with a new timing set. I have drove it now for 3 years and went through 2 sets of tires. It gets 36mpg. I saved enough money in fuel and maintence alone to pay off the truck in my signature 2 years early. Do as you wish, but I'd buy it if I had the cash.
Know one thing for sure. Dealer A made money on the '07 .... that's what he is in business to do. "I'd have made $1500 on the deal" is creative accounting .... did you really? If the old Escort is worth a grand to you, buy it.

Yup. I'm absolutely certain that you are correct. Seems to me that both dealers will make money in the deal.
I've been having the "creative accounting" discussion all morning at work...

I voted buy it back. You already know the car, Escorts are pretty basic little beasts and it can probably be fixed and still be worth more than what you've got in it. And if you like the car, having it around is worth a grand.
"93 Escort with a bad motor is worth at most $100 in real dollars to dealer "A"...he probably sold it to dealer "B" for $200...anything over that is his margin. I personally think $1000 is way too much to pay for a 14 year old car with a bad motor...but...as I've said in other threads...it's worth only as much as you're willing to pay for it!!! It shouldn't be an emotional decision...you can't negotiate effectively unless you are willing to walk away>
You are absolutely correct. It SHOULDN'T be an emotional decision. Unfortunately, it kinda is... (or is that fortunate?)
I don't think that the motor is shot...I'm fairly certain that it is either the head gasket or the head itself. (Some dumbazz overheated it... ) Head gasket costs $18.00. And I don't imagine a junkyard head would be more than $100 if it were the head itself.
The engine doesn't leak or burn oil at all. I'm not sure for how much longer, but so far, no leaks, no loss, and it is still fairly clear at 3,000 mile oil changes...
Are you sure you didn't get $500 for the Escort and they tacked $2000 onto the prices of the Focus. Kiss it goodbye.....do ya really want the prob back? And it is just an Escort....lol....j/k
