I'm doing the pan gasket on my 93 F150 and I have gotten down to the point where the pan free but I cant get it past the exhaust pipe. I do have a dual exhaust but it ataches after the little crossover pipe that the O2 sensor is in. I am at a loss, I just cant get enough room to get the pan worked free. It looks like the motor needs to be raised another 2-3 inches. I am about to cut the exhaust and just get it rewelded after I get done. Any suggestions, or comments are greatly appreciated.
i took one out or a 93 one time, i unbolted the moter mounts and i unbolted the exhaust pipe. To get the pan out though i had to take the oil pump out before i could get the pan itself out. It was a real treat getting the oil pump muonted back up in there. Good luck
When I did my Bronco I cut the crossover and took down the left side pipe. When I put it back together, I used a beer can and a couple of hose clamps to seal it up and took it to a muffler shop where they welded it back up for $15. That was about 100K miles ago and it's still holding up. But I still had to jack up the motor as well.
i will also be venturing in this real soon! Is it any different with longtube headers? Mine is a 90. I plan to change the oil pump, and check the bearings and all. MAy do some new bearings while under it.
For just the gasket, the engine does not have to move at all -- I've done it before. If, though for some reason the pan needs to come out, the engine will have to be lifted for clearance.
OK, I have the engine lifted up some and the exhaust are lose at the manifolds, there just isnt enough roon to get this pan out. I also have the pickup tube lose but the pump is still in place.
If something dosent give this afternoon I am going to cut one side of the exhaust and then get it rewelded later.
Does anyone know how the pan gasket could have gotten torn inbetween the mounting holes? Mine has several rips and it was pushing out from between the block and pan. As far as I know no one has ever taken a wrench to the pan bolts and we have owned this truck since it was new.
To get the pan out, will have to drop the pump as well. The gasket being pushed out could be caused by to much pressure in the crankcase. How's the pcv valve?
Do you have the upper intake removed as well? This will give you more clearance so you don't hit the hood.
Loosen the trans mount bolts and place a 1x4 under in to get a little better angle.
Got the pan out along with pump but there was no gasket between the block and pump but there was a gasket between the pickup screen tube and pump. Is this normal or did they leave something out at the factory?
