I posted back in OCT. about my problem with water/coolant leaking from my exhaust.Since then I have changed my radiator and solved one leaking problem but still have water leaking out of exhaust pipe.I checked freeze plug Its good at this point pretty sure its the head or head gasket .I took pictures but have not got them on photo bucket .Between work ,deer hunting, and a wife my truck has not run since mid summer.I also found today that a fire department I used to be on is going to auction off there cherry 1978 ford f 150 brush truck and thinking of bidding on it.
Wow. Never seen anything like that before. It looks like it its pouring out of there. Have you tried cleaning off the head to see if there are any visible craks in it? With how fast it looks like it is coming out of there it would have to be a pretty big leak.
If the leak is in both cylinder banks, that is usually from some sort of water heated carb spacer or passage in the intake manifold that corroded through.
If the leak is in just one cylinder bank, the two likely scenarios are:
An intake manifold gasket leak from a coolant passage to an intake port.
A head gasket leak from a coolant passage to a combustion chanber.
A starting test would be to do a leakdown test on each cylinder in that cylinder bank with the testing cylinder at TDC on a compression stroke. If you get pressure in the cooling system, it is a head gasket or cracked head.
The head and intake gaskets and the carb opening are pretty much the only places that coolant can get into a combustion chamber without being cracked/corroded parts.
The gaskets are the places I'd start first, not may rigs have water heated carb spacers, but they are out there.
do yuo have coolant in the oil, or oil pan? what shape or color are the plugs? is one plug discolored but not others? if coolant is in the pan or on the plugs maybe the intake gasket is shot. coolant leaving the coolant passage and entering the combustion chamber.
Take the intake off and see if you have Antifreeze in the compartment. If not, take the heads off and replace the gaskets. It's definately internal. Based on my experience it's probably the head gasket though.
If it's in the oil make sure to remove the oil pan and clean that out as well. Lifters, pushrods, bottom of intake can be cleaned with brake cleaner.
Thanks for all your feedback. To answer your question about the oil there is no water on the dipstick. I have not checked the plugs yet. The engine is a 351m and the truck has not run since mid summer. Before that the truck ran pretty strong.
