The truck in question is a 1999 F-250 4x4 with a V-10 and 5-Speed. I have about 120000 on it. I just purchased it in Oct. I have done the complete tune up (plugs, boots, fuel filter, air filter, PCV, O2 sensors). I changed out the manifold gaskets, fuel pump, and muffler for other reasons.
I have had a miss for the last couple of weeks. Everytime I have pulled the codes, I have had no DTCs. After driving it last night I noticed the miss was getting worse, so I pulled the codes last night hoping it would finally give me which cylinder coil was going bad. Unfortunaly, it gave me P0300, or multiple miss fires on multiple cylinders. AAARRRGGGG. Any thoughts?
The p0300 is spark, so firstly, I'd the coils. I believe your motor has two packs rather than COP, so one pack may be failing. The other thing I am thinking is CPS, the ECM doesn't really know when to spark so it's not sparking at the right time.
Thanks. The 99 V-10 has COPs. I have replaced 1 due to a miss fire. The code that was given gave me the correct coil to replace. I will take a look at the CPS. That was the way I was leaning.
I was trying very hard to get a code out my COPs once, I had to clear it up so I replaced all 8. Turns out that two of them had rust stains on the boots. You may have had only give a code, but more than one that was failing.
I went ahead and replace the cam sensor last night. Went to start the truck, ran much better. As the truck warmed up a miss returned. The miss is like a coil pack going bad again. This morning, on the way to work it ran great tho. We will have to see what happens.
I just got a Diablo chip with diagnostics, so this weekend I may do some Data logging and see if I can see any problems there.
