Tires

I have the stock Conti 275/70-18 on my 08 SD Crew 6.4 PSD and want wider tires but do not want new rims at the moment. What is the widest tire I can have put on the stock rims? What is the best tire for all around use with good snow traction? I go off road when hunting but mostly highway.

On most vehicles 11.5 inch wide is the widest you can go with out any lift to the truck or changing rim size. I am not familiar with what rim width comes on your truck?

I tried to do some searching for you and couldn't come up with much. Their isn't a whole lot out there yet for 18 inch rims.

I found a 285/65/18 and it is 11.5 inch wide tire. BFG ATKO

Your's right now is already a 11 inch wide tire.

I would put this question on the 6.4 forum and you may get alot better answers than here.

If you are willing to to switch to a 17 inch rim you may have a lot more options for tires, but you need to make sure that a 17 inch rim will fit over the brakes.

How wide will depend on how tall you want to go.

35X12.50R18 or 305/70R18 would be as wide and tall as you would want to go on a stock truck.

I would suggest either Pro Comp Xtreme A/T in the 35X12.50R18 size or Mickey Thompson ATZ in the 305/70R18 size.

Just keep in mind if you go over 4" wider than your rim your tire will look ballooned and will decrease the tread life and ride quality.

It is also not safe if you are 4 inches wider than the rim.

If you want to go much wider than stock you will need to get different rims and probably with a different back spacing so you have no rubbing issues.

Not always true. Tires with taller sidewalls can handle narrower wheels. Both tires I listed are approved for a 8" wheel and the factory 18" wheels are 8" wide.

35X12.50R18 will fit on a 18" stock wheel with no rubbing issues on the OP's truck.
