Question dumped a bunch of oil

Driving home last night I noticed smoke behind me, not from the exhaust, then my truck died. When I got pulled over and popped the hood there was oil everywhere. I haven't made it back to the truck yet but, does anyone know where I should start lookin'?
If it matters, it was really cold last night.

This forum has saved my butt a few times in the past and I really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Adam

Sounds like a high pressure line went. Could be O-ring, or the line itself. Look at the HPOP & follow the lines to the heads and see if there's anything obvious. You might have to clean it up a bit, put some more oil in, and have a helper start it to find it.

On a different note, isn't it nice to be driving a truck that shuts itself down instead of burning up when the oil gets low??

Thanks Joe,

That makes perfect sense! And, Yes, it is nice that the truck shuts itself down.
I'm on my way to chase that line down now.'

Thanks again,

Adam

This just happened to me tonight. Anyone else ever have this problem? Or which high pressure lines to check? All i got was the battery light flashing, then it shut itself down.

If you don't have an oil leak, you might want to start a new thread. You may have a different problem.

BTW Joe, I see the carb diet is over.

Well, thanks to this lovely freezing rain i havent had the chance to really look at it, but i do know that their was oil all under the hood, so theres deffinetly a leak. This is the first diesel i've ever messed with, and its actually my dads truck, hes a retired Cat man but he just had back surgery so he can't really take a look at it.

No, just a later phase. When you get further along in the diet, you're allowed more carbs, up until you stop losing weight. Then you back off slightly... I'm still not eating potatoes, bread, or starchy veggies. Miller Lite has only 3.2g of carbs, and Mich Ultra has even less -- 2.6g. So you see, you can have a couple beers and still be "low carb". BOTTOMS UP!!
