With a 460 swap into my '79 f150 shortbed, I went with the 38 gal tank and opted for a ticker pump mounted on the crossmember right in front of the tank. I need to get some ideas for either a different mounting or a different style pump, because the ticker is obnoxiously loud. I even tried mounting it on some rubber feet...didn't help. I'd like to stick with the electric pump because servicing the block-mounted manual pump with the 460 is pretty tight quarters. Any ideas?
A ticker pump is an inline fuel pump that uses a recirprocating piston to create the pumping action. You get em @ O'Reillys for about $30. I think what I'm gonna do is spend $120 or so and put in a Mallory or Walbro bullet style inline pump. Should quieten things down considerably.
i always called them universal pumps. guess things are different in texas. hows your weather? as for the pump try mid to late 80's rangers and f series. they had an inline mount to the frame, under drivers door, pump. you could buy the pump/ bracket used for cheap. just becareful with an inertia switch, you need that if your truck stalls or is in an accident. you don't want fuel pumping if the truck is off.
The other day I was reading a thread where Dennis had posted a procedure to power up the pump via an oil pressure switch through a relay. Sounds like a good idea, I'll have to see if I can re-locate the thread. Thanks for the reply.. Rob
