2004 - Shift from Drive to Park

I have a 2004 Explorer with 46,000 miles and lately every time I park the vehicle and try to shift into park, it gets completely stuck between P and R. I switch back to drive, and try again, if usually works (after hearing a bit of noise). If I am backing into a parking spot and have to switch to reverse prior to park, it works fine. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Check to see if your brake lights are working; if not, that fuse also powers the brake-shift interlock and if blown could be your problem. Hopefully, it's not something in the tranny.

My 02 does this. When shifting to Park, I just stop at Reverse then go to Park. It will not go directly from Drive to Park. I think I read a service bulletin once about this. Its annoying, but not worth paying to have it corrected.
