I highly doubt that programing could damage a HPOP. If you cracked the case of the old one. . . it was probably a defective part. There are plenty of programers out there that demand so much oil that the pump simply cannot keep up. The end result is the pressure bleeds off. And if i were to make one recommendation. . . it would be to not install a diablo programmer. I would make the Call to Jody at DP Tuner. You will never find a company that delivers customer service, quality and performance like they do. And His programming is very safe for the truck. This guy flat out knows the engine and how to make safe reliable power.

In my opinoin NO. The chip can't cause a situation, in which to force the HPOP to work beyond its designed perrameters, to crack the housing. Why do you feel that this Programmer, might have been the cause? Just curious. Country
i wasnt sure, my excursion is on its 3rd hpop. i was just wondering if the programmer made the hpop run higher oil pressure causing it to fail. i'm also not happy that it's impossible to find a brand new hpop, you can only purchase a re manufactured one.

The only thing a chip or programer can do is raise the duty cycle of the pump. That is all. It cannot raise the oil pressure at the pump beyond what it's designed to run at. Which is around 3,200 psi +/-. Nothing can make it run beyond that.
Yeah, they haven't built a new pump in over 3 years and that does suck. The original maker of the Hpop's was Rex Ross, Delhpi was the Company that rebuilt the unit's. Bosch bought out Rex Ross. Well as a result of the change over, somewhere they forgot how to use a TQ wrench and continue to overtighten the fittings on the pumps and over stress the seals. Now I found all this info out after doing some research, and going thru what you've experienced. I had three pumps changed out on my truck within a 3 day period all while sitting at a shop. 2 leaked out the seals and the 3rd wouldn't hold a prime. So don't feel bad, and don't let them tell yah it's the chip/programmers fault that you blow the hpop's. BS, there's nothing futher from the truth. It is the reman companies (Bosch)inability to rebuid them properly. This is a know fact.
Ahh, just go with big oil. HAH HAH HAH. Country
The company that built them is Rexroth. They shut the equipment down and no new pumps can be built. They are all rebuilt now.
If you have a pump loosing prime, it's installation error. The pump cannot loose prime, it can only leak out a front gasket, reservoir gasket, or check valve.
A pump will put out only what's capable of putting out, so a tuner can ask for more, but it will not respond and damage from asking too much will not hurt the pump.
A cracked housing is just the downfalls of castings --- they can snap for no reason from a flaw in the casting- rare however. I have one in the hop that lost a tiny chip the size of a pin head, but in the precise spot to make it stop pumping oil altogether.
We rebuild these pumps, can upgrade 17 degree swash plates into 94-97 pumps, and our latest project is almost finished, the PULSE hpop. This is a high volume high pressure oil pump capable of feeding any injector. It is a bolt- in single pump.

Hey Bob thanks for chiming in here. Great info. Do you have any idea when these pumps will be out. And do you have an idea of cost on the units. Or any other details. Thanks in advance. Country
Depends on the program. If it is calling for high ICP pressures all the time, it could hasten the demise, I would think. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
That is why I went with a BTS Big Oil system. To save wear on the pump. That is my story and I am sticking to it. Some would say the big oil tunes I ordered have something to do with it too. Who can say.
