Smile emissions

I need some advice! I live in spokane, have everything emissions tested. Problem is, I have a 1984 f-150 with a beautiful new flowpro exhaust system. minus the cat..... it came from a non-emission county. my truck is right on the borderline of the 25 year emission kick. Word from my muffler sponsor is $400 for a cat. I have the option to get the $150 waiver by doing other misc. work instead.

Would that be the route to go? any opinions?

Register it as a '82, few offices actually bother to run the VIN and if you get confronted then it was a "clerical" error.

Actually marty's idea is better

guess it would be worth the $15 to see how bad it fails LOL

After that I still get the free test!

If it fails then you know what needs to be worked on.

Dont run it to see if it fails unless your sure that the shop your at wont report that or else it goes on the record as a fail, and then if you really do fail again it gets marked as a gross poluter. best jus to pay the 150 bucks for exemption

Thanx for the suggestions guys! I think safest bet is to do the $150 and out the door.you never know if it'd even pass if I did put on a cat. I think they should cut off the emissions inspection at 15 years old.

Trying to pass emmisions in Cali is the main reason I thought it was easier to put a new motor in the year before last...Part of the testing even includes your gas cap!...Needless to say, I bought one of them to be on the safe side.

There was a guy getting tested before I did...Brand new truck bought in Oregon, with the dealer plates still on the thing...Normally a new vehicle is not tested, but only if bought in CA...Talking about a mad SOB...His truck failed the emissions, and he could not get it registered.

To get exempt status involves jumping through some real hoops...Not only do you have to prove that the cost is prohibative, but you have to request a hearing for approval...Many just drive illegally or get another vehicle.

This isn't Washington, we are known as Cali way up north.
