What's up with these engine failures?

I own a 2007 King Ranch 2007 4x4 Screw With a 5.4, and I have noticed lately that there have been recent posts regarding engine replacements because of a clicking noise. I have also read this only applies to 2007 5.4's. I have 10000 miles on mine and no issues;however, do I need to buy an extended warrenty? What is Ford doing? Is this going to be a recall situation? What can be done to prevent this problem?

Well take a look at the number of threads on this topic, compared to the total post volume on this forum. Quite small.... You still have plenty of miles left on your regular warranty. If I were you, I would not worry just yet. I doubt that you will get another 26000 miles on your truck in the next year or so (IF there truly is a problem, I would assume Ford would rectify it within a year of build date).

The only problem with these forums is a lot of people come here to find answers of why there truck is broken. So all you see most of the time are people with problems. There is tons of people coming on this forum, and there has only been a couple engines problems so I would say you are pretty good. I will get caught up in it sometimes when someone post a problem, then I get paranoid thinking stuff is wrong with mine (When the truck is perfectly fine). Just enjoy the truck and don't worry.

I appreciate your comments but I was looking for more than don't worry be happy. What is going on with these clicking noises? What components are failing and why? Why did one guy in Atlanta say that his dealership told him they have recently replaced 9 engines? The replacement of an engine is a big deal. I understand that sometimes things go wrong. I would like to know what is going on. Why and what is happening.

Dig around a little more, and you'll see there was a spate of 5.4 engines in the first half of '07 or so that had a bad crank bearing or shim or something that created a condition that basically starved parts of the engine of oil at idle and eventually led to the engine nearly seizing up.

From the accounts given by folks on the internet, Ford seemed to be a bit slow to understand what was going on at first so the people with the early cases were getting yanked around a bit. It seems they have a better handle on how to identify those cases now and know to just replace the engine instead of dorking around with anything else.

I'm crossing my fingers on mine still since it only has 4K on it so far.

your post is the first I've heard of any 04+ having any major engine damage problems

the 04 and 05 had a bad "diesel" noise, but that's it as far as I knew.

if it was going to happen, it would have already happened judging by your mileage. but hey, you've got till 36,000 for that puppy to fail

Don't Worry, Be Happy Now

My truck was built in Jan 2007. How do I find out when my engine was built? What was the build date of the engines that have this problem?

For use guys with 2006 model year trucks we get an extended ford ESP and pay 100.00 out of pocket each time for service. You had to buy your truck on or after july 14th.
