Im looking for some info on replacing the rear sliding window. I had an accident with some cargo in my bed ,and my right rear window was broken. I havent done this before and wanted to know is this easy to replace. I know I will have to replace the whole unit. Is it a simple pop in and out? Any sealant used ? Any and all info would help .
Geez it shouldn't be too bad. I remember reading something a while back on some guy doing it. If it was me, I'd head down to a autoglass shop and talk them into lettin me watch them do one. Then you make the decision whether to let them do it or you try it yourself.
You just pop the old one out and put a string aroud the new one and insert the bottom then pull the string around to the top..Slowly. How do I know. LOL
I just broke the right side out of mine by turning my 5th wheel to sharp. The local glass shop replaced it with Lexan tinted the same color as the other side. It looks great and cost $100.00.
I've done several in older Chevy's, I'm sure a newer truck would be just the same. Pop the old one out by pushing it out from the inside- start at one of the top corners (they pop easier because of the round corner). Helps to have someone in the bed to catch the window Take the rubber seal off and put it around the new window. Get yourself a length of 1/4" nylon rope long enough to go around the whole window, with an extra 1-2' for pulling on. Start and end at one of the bottom corners. With the end of your rope inside the cab, place the bottom of the window in place, and put some pressure (not a ton though, then it's hard to pull the rope out) on it. Keep the pressure on the window as you pull the rope out- the rope pulls the gasket around the lip, and if you do it right the new window will pop right in.
