Powermaster Starters..

Murphy snuck into the shop last night and screwed up my starter. Now I need a new one, or rebuild the one I have. I bring up Powermaster's due to the fact that the headers on my 390 make removal of said starter a truly fabulous undertaking. Even with the front cap off! A smaller starter would help and they CLAIM to be better than stock but I would like an opinion from someone here who has used them.

Or, if rebuilding my stock starter is better, what should I expect the shop to charge?

Thanks,

spots

I had a Powermaster for FE starter...number 9609 I beleave...NEVER AGAIN!!! Worked great when cold but as soon as it got hot it either wouldn't crank or I'd turn the key and then a second later it would with no problem. Plus I couldn't really even index it not cause of my exhaust but because of the block!! And its suppose to be designed for sid block oh please. I even tried various wiring confgs to see if anything would help..nope...After about a month of this I pulled it and got a Duralast from Autozone...no problems since and it even cleared my headers better go figure. Maybe I'd try them on something more common again but an FE I sure wouldn't.

This is the mini starter that you need!!!

Robb came to my FE BBQ and brought some of his stuff with him. Those starters are the BOMB. They use a V-Band clamp so you can position them where you want! By the way he is the guy who designed the Erson FE rockers! Neat guy to talk with and awesome to deal with as well.... JMO

Well, these didn't. I haven't even started the engine yet. Time and mileage took their toll on this one. It worked six months ago before I put it on the shelf but it waited for me to install it before it died.
