Hi all, due to the failure of several emissions related components and the relative scarcity of locating good used or even new ones, I have been thinking of just taking the whole airpump and related stuff out. I know this is not "legal" but the truck is basically a farm truck at this point and does not require emission testing. So, has anyone done this? The EGR looks to act like a big spacer for the 1bl Carter carb so maybe I can blank it off? The whole system (emission) is all mechanical so I am not going to have to fool any sensors. Help!
You can just disconnect the whole works and leave that spacer in place, or, if you can find a truck with a non-catalist emissions sticker, they have a carb spacer with only a vacum port for the PCV, and a nice stamped steel alternator bracket that doesn't have the air pump bracket on it. It's a while since I had my carb off, but, I'm pretty sure you can't just put in shorter studs and bolt the carb on,or I would have done it.
