For sometime now I've been battling this problem. My supercrew 4.6L (rear wheel drive, automatic tranny) stalls intermittently, but especially when slowing down (not extremely hard braking), or slowing down into a moderately sharp turn (like an intersection). I've changed the IAC and the problem returned within a month. When it stalls all ignition lights are on including check light, I just nuetral & restart. The check light goes out as normal. What the hell is happening?
The stalling occurs both when engine is hot or cold. Of note the engine feels a little sluggish with the rpm falling, at nights the head lights dim & the ac fans speed drops whenever the idle falls. the last stall occured after driving about 30 miles and slowing into a turn at a friend residence gate. It stalls sometimes about 15 minutes after start driving and then slowing.
the low idle speed is to slow. i dont know why, but when the speed drops too low, the battery dont charge right, lights dim, fan slows, etc... when the motor dies because it is running to slow, the idiot light all light up, thats normal.. everything is doing what it should -- if the motor speed drops too low to keep running.. you need the idle speed setup some how.. i dont know if it is a throttle stop or a minor electrical problem that you have.
I believe the alternater take control of power after all vehicles have started. The truck idles normally at 700rpm, not sure if it should be higher. It tends to fall below the 500rpm once I'm braking or releasing the accelerator whilst moving in traffic. It comes with symptoms like the steering wheel tightening up
I'm wondering if you don't have an accessory that is causing a lot of drag on the motor and making it stall. Take your belt off and turn everything by hand and see if anything feels extra stiff.
BTW, what has been done on the truck as far as tune up parts such as spark plugs, fuel/air filters, etc?
I service on a regular basis as per the OEM instructions oil, air & fuel filters, engine oil etc. I've been by the book since. I have not changed spark plugs, the truck has gone a little over 84000 km. A friend told me he had the same problems and a "transmission sensor"(???) was the problem. I do believe if it was a sensor there would be a code. What are the symptoms of bad fuel pump, bad alternator or blocked injectors?
