Timing Adjustment

I had replace the pick-up coil and now I need to set the timing. But I don't know what degrees to set it at. The sticker on the truck says "Adjust timing mark to align with deep V notch on timing pointer" (10 degrees BTDC) So I set the timing to zero degrees and when i put the spout connector in it reads 10 degrees BTDC. I wanted to make sure I had it set right so I checked my friends truck, same year as mine and when you take out the spout connector it reads zero degrees. It's in the big V notch on the timing pionter. I was wondering if the deep V notch on the timing pointer is the 10 degrees BTDC or is that zero?
