What scanner are you guys using ???
I just received the Elm 327 and found it does not work on the diesel trucks.
I have taken this unit to work and it did fine on a F150 5.4 and a chevy,
pulled codes and cleared them. However it does nothing on the 95 or 97 power stroke trucks.
So tell me what does work and works well on these trucks ???
I found this on their website _____Optional expansions allowing you to communicate with non-OBD-II vehicles like the Powerstroke, Duramax, and Cummins diesels. Now my ? is does this work with the ELM 327 unit.

You found what on whose web site? I think that up to 95 or 96 the powerstrokes were non-OBDII but the later 97 up are. Look under your hood it will tell you if you are OBD II.
Look under products. That Quote is right from their own pages. www.autoenginuity.com
The only scanner I have ever used in the past on the 97 has been the snapon.
But it has the keys with it And I think the keys are the missing link here. thats why autoenginuity adds other Optional expansions to their scanner to scan these trucks.
I just went on E-bay and read the specs for the ELM 327 and amoungst other things it states that it is compatable with Europe Dissel (Their spelling) 2004.
Give Bill Vanorden of Auto Enginuity in Arizona at (480) 326-3257 and he is willing to give you the full scoop on which scanners will and won't work on our diesels.

Still does not seem to pull codes on my trucks.
when the 95 would not scan I went to the 97.
Maybe the pins are in the wrong spots on the ford trucks.(diesel)
let me go out and check the prod. date. on the 97.
KAWA Thanks for bills # I will give him a call on monday.
Do you see what I'am saying about the snapon scanner with the keys.
It blocks some pins or moves them to outher spots.
I've got the OTC Genisys machine. Pretty pricey for just the average do it yourselfer. The ecm's on these older trucks are pretty dumb compared to the newer ones. The Genisys works excellent with these trucks but it aint no $380, its about 10 times that.
That is quite a web site but it's too late for me to read let alone understand, in fact if I got into that and started changing pins around my rig would probably burn to the ground.
I think that C00nhunter has an "IN" to the Ford equipt. (Not Fair) DieselNut is very correct, you can pay as much for one of these toys as you paid for your rig (well, about as much)
Not to sound like a told you so but when you anounced that you had bought one I was wondering if it would work and if you would tell us when it didn't. You have probably saved someone else the same grief.
If I were you I'd feel like I had been scammed and contact that seller at E-bay and demand your $$$ back. jmho.

I think I'll keep it. I go through life now as an industrial mechanic but had been in the automotive industry 25 years, more body work than engine though. I still have access to use it with small jobs here and there. Should pay for itself although it would have been great if it worked on my trucks and I was able to talk to you before puchasing it. I would still like to talk to a rep of elm to see if I'm missing something. Scanner seems to do quite a bit, seems strange it wouldn't read a diesel.
Kawa I talked to Bill Vanorden of Auto Enginuity today and ordered the ford goods for my trucks. Now I pray ford flashed the truck in 01 when it was there. Thanks for the name & # .
