I've noticed that the coolant flow from my coolant filtering system into the plastic tank is starting to slow down. I guess it's time to replace the filter. I have a Baldwin filter in place (it came with the kit) Is this the best filter for this application? Would any spin-on filter do the same job? Better?

You can go to fleetfilter.com and cross reference the filter numbers. The wix number is 24070 and the napa number is 4070. You can also order you filters online from fleet filter if you wish. If you buy alot at once you get 15% off of a 125 dollar order. Hope this helps.

 

big jake has it right on the napa numbers but one thing to be sure of, yes you can buy coolant filters almost anywhere, and those are the correct napa numbers but almost everyone that sells coolant filters sells one that is identical in shape, size thread etc but it has SCA additives in it, DO NOT use that one you want to be sure and use the filter that is specifically doesn't have those additives.

 

Baldwin B5134's are very good filters.

It's likely the best non-SCA filter for the application.

Their SCA'd filters are probably the best, too.

don't know Pop, I have had both the napa gold and the baldwin filters apart and I will say hte baldwin looked like a good filter and all but not any better then the wix and the ability to get the wix locally or online at about half the cost of the baldwin I tend to think that any advantage is not much in the end.
Now if I had a Baldwin dealer close and the price was remotly competitive I might think different I don't know but like i said it wasn't any better than the wix filters based on amount of filter media or the job it did.

Of course, that's +shipping, but I usually buy enough filters for both the wife's car and the truck to add up to $75 worth, so there's free shipping. And, I have them on the shelf when I need them.

What are you getting the Wix equivalents for?

If I couldn't get Baldwins or FleetGuards, I could use Wix. They're a quality filter.

They are $6.68 at fleet filter. I am going to be checking out filter barn that is a little bit cheaper on the price. I like to find the new places like that, have you had pretty good luck with filter barn?

 

I got the URL a couple of years ago from a friend who has a lot of heavy equipment. He has been buying from them for many years.

The same guy who owns filterbarn also has a number of sales on eBay. Google them and see how many references to them appear beyond their own website.
