On my 85 F250 I only use the front fuel tank. Every time I fuel up it takes about 20-30 mins just to fill up. I have to spray and let it settle cause it foams up. What can I do to fix this?
If you have a choice of fuel pumps, always chose the one with the most lean with the passenger side lower and the front of the truck downhill.
I know that is probably no help in Texas, but it will help if you can.
Next thing, loosen the fuel filler tube, three or four bolts hold it in place.
After the bolts are loose the filler tube will let you pull it in under the bed.
Now remove the clamp the secures the filler hose to the neck and work the filler tube out of the hose.
Inside the hose is a smaller vent tube which should be attached to the filler neck.
Pull the vent tube out and trash it.
Now put everything back together and go fill up.
Check for leaks.
Had my first occasion with this problem since I got my truck new in 93.... happened on last fillup. Went to the wrong pump.....I just stay away from the OTR truck sized fuel nozzles.......and it fills at full open. This one time bigger is not better........ size does matter.
I just bought my first diesel a month or so ago, and was having the fill-up problems. I did a search, and people were modifying vent pipes on the tank among other things. I tried the above trick on the front tank(taking the rubber hose out of the metal fill pipe) and after that, my next fill I was able to hold the pump nozzle wide open with no problems. I am embarrassed to say I have not put any more fuel in it, except that 2nd time, but it's getting low again, and so in a couple of days I am going to try it again and see how it fills. If it's good, I am going to pull the hose out of the rear tank.
some nozzles are reg differently big trucks are reg from 30 to 75 gals a min ours hit at 50 gal a min anymore than this the fuel spill are a real bear the car diesel pump are reg from 2-10 gal a min so sometimes if they are at a higher flow the the foam is greater so the more you can vent the tank the better sometimes the vent tube gets filled with junk this happens alot with the rain and snow and all the mud we like to get into but try cleaning the vent on the top of tank along with Dave's tip and things will flow much better
