Question black stuff in fuel ?

Changed fuel filter today (trying to stop smoke at start up) and there's black stuff in my fuel any ideas on wut it could be would be great it was very small dots I could not fish any out

Does fuel from the fuel rails come back to the fuel bowl ?
And what does syn motor oil do in diesel will it bead up ? Reason I ask is I think I might have a bad injecter oring witch might let oil into my fuel is that possible ?
My fuel fitter was completely clogged up almost

Thanks jordan

It could be oil but have not seen it bead up. Here's an ongoing thread to look at. LINK

Or it could be algae. See this thread. LINK

Have you got any pics?

Next step is to figure out if it is microbial or dino.

If you get pics and email them to me I can upload them. rfhurt at yahoo dot com

That phone is smart enough to take pics and email them isn't it.

My fuel filtter looks just like that and the next sad thing is I got fuel from shell for once usually kwik trip or BP never shell or mobil
Would algae grow in 5* weather though ? Its been super cold ?
This last week end I drove about 400 miles christmas shopping and noticed my 80eco setting wasn't throwing any black smoke at all usually its pretty black when I get on it on the on ramps so I just told my self to sea foam it and change fuel filter again just changed it about 8K miles ago not sure how often your suppose to I'd say once a year max or every 25K-30K miles

And I don't have a computer to upload photos witch really sucks but plan on getting one soon

Thanks jordan

You may have been getting enough fuel in 80e to perform well enough but not so much that it wouldn't all burn and cause rolling smoke.

Algae can form under the ice above the arctic circle, but if you got it from a storage tank it might be dead algae from the bottom of a very low on fuel storage tank.

Edit: Fuel filter should be changed at least every 15k.

Okay thanks clay ! First pic is new filter second is fuel bowl with a couple black dots (just drained fuel bowl and put new filter in so there's only a couple new pieces of what ever it is that in the fuel ) that are big anuff to see third pic is old filter with roughly 10-15K miles on it and was caked with that black stuff ill pull my fuel filter again and get some more pics to see if its gotten bad again it looked like floating dirt fine dirt but when I tried fishing some out with my finger it would disperse and I wouldn't have nothing except for a black smear mark on my finger ?
