Hey was wondering how you guys would go about fixing this. What products can i try before next oil change. Could i replace just lifters without pulling cam out? 89 f250 351. It only lasts for about 5-10 seconds after start up. i run 10w40 Castrol GTX with a Quart of Lucas everytime i change oil. Truck holds 7 quarts
you can replace liters without pulling out the cam buy you've gota pull the intake manifold to get to the lifters then break them in for 20mins at 2300rpms then change the oil
Think i might want to try a chemical solution first. where should i start and am i using a good oil for where i live. I live in kansas city kansas, temps in winter time are between 38-10.
Your problem is a cheap oil filter with a plastic anti-drainback valve that warps and leaks after a few hours(any cheap Fram, Q-state, Castrol, or chain store brand filters) or sludge buildup inside the motor which can be cured with some engine flushing most times.
Is Fram really that bad. I just put one on maybe I should change it. What about Seafoam. I put that in and my oil gauge went from reading around the N to around the M, don't know if that really was the reason but That was the only thing I had done at the time.
Yeah well that is good to know is their a reason why? What is different just curious. When I use Sea Foam I use it for about a Tank of Gas or a Week Then change the oil, again works well for me
I agree, all I know is the fram oil filter made a difference so the oil in their must have been pretty dam bad. The sea foam did the trick though. A week would be max with it in. I know people that use it every 3 to 6 months. Don't know how good or bad that is I just prefer to do a engine flush.
Yes it can also be put in the gas as well as through the brake booster vacuum line, I however just put it straight in the TB. Was looking up about the FRAM they do not sound good at all. Gonna change mine out. Just shows that even the so called simple things should be researched.
