whining fuel pumps

When i got my f-150, i noticed a whine coming from underneath the bed which later determined the sound came from the area of the fuel tank, also when i switched to the front tank the noise then shifted to that area. assuming it's the pumps, are there rebuild kits?, or do i have to buy new pumps alltogether? I had changed the fuel filter when i found it was impossible to blow any air through it, could this hve stressed the pumps causing them to make the noise?

Its hard to gauge a failing pump by the noise those particular pumps make . It seems the hotter it is , the worse the noise is that they make . A clogged fuel filter would definetly place an undo load on the pumps . Check your fuel pressures , both static & running , see how quickly the pressure builds & holds , Thats a more accurate measurement of how well a fuel pump is doing . You should notice the fuel pressure goes to at least 40 psi as soon as the key is turned to run . Engine running pressures should be in the 50 Psi range .
