95 F 150 trans problems

I recently bought a 95 F150, 5.0 , 4R70w, 2 wheel drive. The trans acted crazy for about 10 days, then stopped pulling altogether. I recently located a 4R70W from a 96 F150, low miles. Questions are:
1. Where the heck is the PCM located?
2. Will the 96 trans work in my 95?
3. Is the PCM different between 95 and 96.
Thanks to all for your help! I'm anxiously awaiting your help. (It's rough using my Buick for a work truck!) Jasper1

Drivers kick panel. You get at it from under the hood.

Do not know for sure but think it would.

Yes, the 95 has a 60-pin connector and the 96 has a 104-pin connector.

95 F150 trans problems

Jasper1 here! Thanx to subford for his quick assistance. I have this 95 F150 with the 4R70W trans, which is shot. I can buy a 96 4R70W for a good price, but need to know how much hassle it will be to do the swap.
Given that the PCM's are different what will happen if I just try to "plug and play"? Will THE 96 trans electrical plugs fit the 95 harness? If so, will it work OK with the 95 PCM? Oh yeah, I only have about 2 days to make the deal on the 96, so HELP!!!! asap. Thanx, Jasper1

Looking at the two plugs for the 1995 & 1996 at the Transmissions they have all of the same wire numbers and colors in the same places in the plugs. The plugs look the same also in the diagrams.
The 1995 PCM should work also.

That said what I would look for is if they have the same size extension tail shaft housing.

I do not know on these years but in older transmissions the Van and Truck had different shift arms. May not be a problem with a cable shift. Did the 1996 transmission come out of a truck or a Van?

95 F150 trans problems

OK, so I installed the 96 AODE in my truck. As subford said, all wiring pigtails were the same. I pre-filled the torque converter. Now it won't "pull" unless I rev it to approx. 4000 rpm, including in reverse. Any ideas????

Sounds like low line pressure, you need to put a gauge on it to see what you have.
Is this the same problem that you had with the other transmission?
If so you may have a wire or PCM problem.
How did you determine that the old transmission was bad?
Did you get a guarantee with the transmission?
Could be a bad:
1. Pump
2. Seals
3. PCM
4. Solenoid valves
5. Wiring open in one of the circuits from PCM to the Transmission (plug pins, cut wire)

Cool 95 F150 trans problems

Hooray!! Subford, your damned near a genius. I had leaks in a line which caused my carefully measured trans fluid to be low. I fixed the leaks, brought the fluid up to proper level, and the tranny works perfectly. Unfortunately, my 16-year-old daughter, whose had her license for about a month, decided that messing with her cell phone was more important than navigating our driveway and slammed the left front corner into a tree the day I got it fixed. It's always something! Anyway, thanks for the help! jasper1
