than they are supposed to be and crossed. it has a 429 w/c6 auto and full time 4wd the linkage rods are about 3' ft long and they are messed up! it makes the transfer case or backbox grind. like its not going into gear all the way. the transfercase is seperate from the transmission. the transfercase is a np203!
my question is how are the shifter linkage rods are run from the shifter to the backbox? to make this transfercase work properly! any help? pictures, a manual
diagram would be helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i hate jobs like this. and the customer said just fix it!!

ford ranger
Yes it is. They have online manuals and I looked it up. It is under the driveline section. http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm
Just scroll down till you see the NP203 diagram and click on the image. It will enlarge
hey 1980 ford,
i would like to say thank you very much for that diagram, it really did the trick. these people from another shop installed the transfercase and they had the linkage all screwed up. i figured out there is about 4 different ways they could go on. we got it straightened out and the shift pattern the way is should be. and it accually works better. again thank you for the info. it was really helpful. we saved a bunch of time and labor. not to mention a couple hundred bucks as well!
we retreived the information this morning at work.
from all of us out here in Sandy, Oregon. thank you.
Glad it was useful for you. The online manuals autozone has are pretty basic in most aspects, but they have helped me more than once. Plus they have vacuum diagrams and electrical diagrams for these vehicles on there.
when i got to work this morning i told my boss that i think i found what have been lookin' for! he just looked at me and said ok!!!! i said i have to access my e-mail to get it. he said well!! get it! and i did . and it helped big time man! we really appriciate it.
saved alot of time trying to sort out someone elses mistakes. or somone elses coble
trying to get it right. and it doesnot work. i hate that!
i've a mechanic for over 25years and i can safely say i have built a few cars and trucks in my day! i started out in salvage yard as auto dismantler, i just forgot.
my first car was a 1965 galaxi 500 2drhrdtp that i built from what was something that was going to the crusher, i think i gave $35.00 for the shell. and rebuilt it from there.
it was a bone. and i saved it. and it turned out to be one of the nices cars i've ever built. i drove that car for 3years before i sold it. and i think i got 3500.00$ out of it.
sometimes i wished i still kept it. i was a teenager at the time, young and dumb.
and i was racin' stock cars at the same time as well. i bought a 66 ford 7litre for
$600.00 w/427 4speed clean car and i was 20 at the time. now i'm 46 and wishin' i still had them. those were the days!
just to tell alittle about me!!
Sounds like some nice cars! I usually end up working on cars that the people who owned them do things like only change the oil when it all has leaked out, or brakes when they hear grinding, stuff like that. I am not a mechanic, but since most of the people I know don't have any tool more advanced then a hammer, I usually get called! Like I said glad that stuff helped in some way!
