when I first start my 88 300 it seems to have a difficult time maintaining a steady idle. the engine vary's from 900-400- rmps. also when I try to take off it just seems to sputter, and I really have to ride the clutch. it also does the same thing when it has less than 1500 rpms and I give it gas ( i.e shifting from 2nd- 3rd). all of this disapears once the engine is warm. I have checked the TPS and voltage readings seem to be in the norm. I am thinking that it may be a engine temp sensor that is suppose to adjust fuel mixture depending on engine temp. any other ideas. or where would this sensor be located??
The coolant temp sensor is located on the pipe from the thermostat housing , Its cold resistance should be in the 37 to 58K Ohm range with the coolant temp in the 50 to 70 Deg range . Normal operating temp you should see readings in the 1 to 3K Ohm range . Check the Air Temp Sensor as well , its located on the Number 1 intake runner of the lower intake , Its Ohms readings should be the same as for the coolant temp sensor , Maybe a little higher when hot because the air temp in that area will likely be less than the coolant temp .
I finally got a chance to test my sensors today. when the engine is cold I am only getting about 27 ohm resittance instead of 37. this is on both sensors. when they are plugged in I am only getting about 2.66 volts on them (a 5.00 volt ref.). are theese readings normal?? or could this be my problem with the cold engine.
Well ok sorry about the confusion. it is actually 27K. this reading is the same for both the sensors. are there any other sensors that I should check??
