Hi folks. Its been a while since I have been through here, but I could use a little of your vast knowledge. I have a 1984 F150 with the 300 6. It has the 1 barrel YFA feedback carburator setup. What does the feedback solenoid do? I have 3 manuals for this model year and not one covers this carb. at all. The solenoid on my truck sounds like a noisy lifter, continuously tapping (engagin/disengaging). Is it bad? Appreciate any help.

In order to help control emissions, the ECM computer tell the feedback solenoid how much to lean the mixture to maintain 14.7/1 air/fuel ratio at cruise as read in the exhaust temp by the O2 sensor. The solenoid does this by rapidly opening and closing, letting extra bleed air in to the venturis.

Thanks. Should it be ticking at idle? The way you describe its operation, it should be operational at cruise speeds. I have a bid on some 1984 F150 Ford shop manuals. Hope they will help me down the road. Thanks again.
