I've got a 97 F250 s/c 8ft box, 3"lift. 283,900 mi last I looked. She's at the dealership right now getting a little paint touch-up on the box. Just removed all the clear-coat from the rims and repolished them. Now they look like chrome again. After it gets back home from the dealership, I'll re-clear the rims and she should look like brand new again.
you can strip the wheels with simple aircraft stripper. Spray it on, wait 5 min, hose it off. Allow to air dry. Now you can either hit it with a buffer or use never dull, etc. I have an industrial hand held grinder that I put a polish wheel on, a little rouge, and in about an hour, you have wheels that look like they are made of chrome.
Sorry guys, I just can't tell you that.................
Just kidding. I use this product called POR-15. I'm sure you guy's have heard it. I've re-finished my whole undercarrige 2 days after my truck was new and have just touched it up from time to time and it still looks great. The stripper I used from POR-15 is called POR-Stip. You can brush it or spray it on. If you get it on your hands, don't worry, it won't burn ya. Wear latex gloves anyway. Once the finish starts to bubble, use a "Bondo" plastic spreader to scrape off the coating and wipe with a dry rag. Repeat until finish is totally removed then rinse with HOT water while taking a paper towel and wiping the rim. Rinse again with hot water, dry and use your favorite aluminum polish and Wa La.........Chrome. At least they look like chrome. You'll think you just polished the rim right after the clear has been removed they're so clean. Its amazing stuff. Don't worry about leaving POR-Strip on longer than 30 min. It won't harm the finish. Very last, use POR Glisten PC (Clear Coat). Again you can spray it or brush it. IT WILL NOT LEAVE BRUSH MARKS as it says on the can. By the way, Using SummitHO as an ID, yes I do live in MI and ride Skidoo's, and Owned Polaris's. Have an F7 Kitty in the garage too. Have to do something during the Winter in MI to pass the time by other than truck tweaking or I'd go nut's. I actuall y enjoy the snow though still at 43. Still just a kid I guess.
