Wont go into low range?

Ive got a 95 F150 with the electric push button 4x4 borg warner 1356. My transfer case goes between 2wd and 4wd no problem not even a hesitation. Ive climbed under the truck while someone else changed it and felt it...definetly no problems. but when I had them push low range it just didnt do anything. I had it neutral like your supposed to. But when you push the button it acts like it didnt get any signal to do anything. Is there a 4wd low range relay somewhere that usually goes bad or maybe does the indash push button switch go out commonly? Any one had this problem before?

I believe you also have to be stepping on the brake... See if that helps.

yup...did that. Thanks. Ive been searching all of the posts. saw a couple that should help. Im going to check the control module in the passenger kick panel and see what info the light gives me. If not...then im going to move on down to the motor itself and see whats going on with that end of things.

The shift linkages are notorious for siezing up on these trucks, probably a good idea to dismantle it and grease everything.

No shifter linkage on this truck Paul, he's using electronic 4x4.

Isn't there still a small linkage connecting the motor to the Xfer case? Maybe I'm thinking of something else....

P.S. Yeah.. I'm thinking something else... Looks like the shift motor is bolted directly on the side of the case. So the problem is either electrical or inside the case.

Yeah, the shifter motor bolts directly to the case and turns the shift rod inside the case, rather simple really.

Cody, check the 4x4 module under the passenger kick like you said you were going to, thats a good place to start. Does the truck react in any way when you click the low range button? Any relay click or light or anything? Also, are you making sure to put it 4x4 FIRST before click the low range button? (I know, a stupid question but we have to cover all bases).

well i pulled off my shift motor and had someone in the cab trying to put it in low, wouldnt go. shifted fine between 2 and 4 though. tryed to turn the motor myself by hand but wouldnt budge i didnt want to break it so i left it alone. leads me to believe its the pcm. im going to pull the kick panel tonight and push the little button and see what the light does. I read somewhere on here that if it blinks it means one thing is bad and if it stays lit it means another thing is bad, but i cant find the thread i saw that on. does anyone know what the different light signals mean???
