Ok I have an 84 Ford F250 and I toasted my dana 60. I have a replacement 14 bolt FF axle for my truck. MY question! On this axle..... it has the hard lines that go into the dist block for the brakes. It has the rubber hose sticking out of the dist block for the brake line up to the truck. I still have my whole rubber line truck to dist block for my dana 60.
So can I cut my rubber line at the dist block on my truck. get an adapter to join the rubber line on the 14 bolt to the line on my truck? So rubber tube end, adapter, rubber tube end.
Couplpe of ways to accomplish this, but you do not want to cut the rubber line.
If you use the original union from the 60, you must first verify that the vent tube can attach in a similar fashion, and the lines attach with the same style thread.
I think I would use the union and rubber line that came with the 14B, and simply dis-connect it where it meets the supply line. This is the hard line that will thread right into the rubber line where it meets the frame. If the fitting is different, you have the option of cutting the very end and re-flaring the end and installing the right fitting, or using an adapter. This route minimizes the total amount of work, and should look the cleanest, without looking butchered.
only issue is i dont have the threaded end on the 14 B I only have the rubber end that would go to that threaded end. The 14 bolt has the vent tube, dist bloc, and all the lines.
but he cut the rubber hose going up to the truck.
I guess what confuses me is how does the supply line for the dist block come off? My dana 60 supply line is fine. Is there a way to undo the 14 bolt supply line and put it in the dana 60 supply line into the 14 bolt dist. block? They both have what appears exactly the same rubber lines.
If the threads that feed the individual lines to the brake cylinders are the same, yuo can use it, though i believe the center bolt is different for the vent, so you will have to keep the fasteners the same.
Now, many companies have aftermarket stainless steel braided lines that have a uniion already attached, This ouwld probably be the quickest way to modify it, but you can chose either method.
Goodridge and russel make these lines.
A good hydraulic shop can even make a custom set up for you.
