Alternator finally on its way out, at least thats what im hoping on my 01 with 130 k. Just looking for some tips on replacing it, ive done them before, not on my SD though. Thanks in advance
If it takes you more than five minutes, you're slow! It's right there on top. Loosen belt, take off electrical connections (caution the big one will still be "hot"), pull three bolts, reverse procedure.
Yep, pretty simple, just helped a buddy change the alt on his 01 PSD this summer. Just pop the belt off, remove the electricals like pop said. I would get some black electrical tape for the big connection coming off the post in the back, just to make sure you dont ground it out. Make sure you take your alt somewhere to have it checked so you know for sure thats what it is!
Just in case your like myself and only have worked on cars with tensioners that you wrench to loosen the belt. To loosen the belt on the PSD you pull the belt and there is a latch on the tensioner that you put up onto the tab.

Ouch! Mine took 12 mins in the parking lot of the auto parts store. I guess I need to start blindfolding myself and doing it over and over until I get it faster. (kind of like the older brother Marine in the movie "Mars Attacks" rebuilding his rifle...)
