Anyone know of a supplier of alternators in the 300 amp range? I know... what the #$!! do you need 300 amps for... It's for my extensive antenna farm on my Ham Radio equipped '01 SD. My amplifier requires 95 amps at 13.8vdc, which means the current system will puke and die in miliseconds!
I cannot help you with the alternator, but I can say CQ Field Day, CQ Field Day.
I am not a Field Day this weekend as I am moving into a new home and my shack is in disarry. I am an Amateur Radio Operator as well here in San Diego, CA and I thought I would say "Hi".
Well try this....Jacobs Accuvolt. Allows user to set voltage steady at 13.5-16.5v. You might not want to see what they run, about $400. There is only one model that will allow 100 amps draw. FW1500, go to the JACOBS web site.
Try a dual battery setup with yellow optimas. I know that will last you a little longer than stock. Don't forget most alternators will not produce max output unless at higher RPMs. I have found that some HIGH OUTPUT units will be lower than stock at an idle. Look into on board welding systems. The rock crawler guys all run then and the company make high output alts, they may have an application.

Steve,
I just got back myself and am ready for a nap. I didn't use my call (kb9wzt), but I worked another Extra's call, K9KE's station (2-A, IL) for about 5 hours overnight and logged about 450-500 calls between 15, 20, and 40m. Had fun, but I'm ready for a nap!
The last link (Premier Power Welder) says that their unit, which is regularly 190 amps, can be wound for 210 amps. I have not yet seen a 300 amp alternator. Good luck.

Mobiarc is one of the best onboard welder/power company's out there. Imo. Also do alternators upto your insane needs.lol..Premier is a great company too. Either one will have what your looking for.

I'll admit that the need for 300 amps is quite high, but as some of the other members that are Amateur Radio (Hams) guys can attest... some of them are hungry for power! (The KC's on the Smitty-Bilt are kinda hungry, too!) I figure on being in need of 200-225 amps with the amplifier firing full power, AC blowing and lights on with the truck running!
Sorry Dave, I was not meaning to sound like a smart a...I have on-board welding on 4 of my vehicles and I get by on dual 250s. I know 300s are out there just have never seen one used. That is some serious power. Had no idea those radios used so much juice.

Psycho...
Absolutely none taken! I use the "snip" thing to clarify that I edited the quote to others. The radios aren't actually all that hungry at 23 amps, but when you have 3 radios at 23, 14, and 7 respectively, then the 95 amp amplifier.... lol... SOMEwhere the truck has to run and you know I'm gonna have my AC!!!!
lol... No offense taken at ALL. I suppose I have a dry sense of humor, too... I'm sure that doesn't help a lot!
nafzimo called because he really wants to see another of my two page responses
Of course you don't give much to go on except 01 Superduty
If V8 or V10 you are stuck with single alternator of which there are many companys who make high output units, money is the only limit.
Google search for Alternator, at bottom search within results for high output, search within results again for 300 amp and you will have 977 different results.
If you have the PSD you can get a second alt set up direct from Ford. Coupled with a second battery as suggested earlier should provide more than enough.
I'm not sure where I'll mount it, but a second battery will be lined up as well. I know some folks out there with big stereos in their vehicles have PROBABLY covered this ground before, but getting them to respond is another thing!
I'm sorting through links now to find a suitable alternator, but doing so gets tedious and I can only manage 10-15 sites per day due to frustration over what seems like everyone wanting to cater to those vehicles with nooses on their grill!
I was kinda looking for the welding crowd to maybe go as far as suggest a salesman they had dealt with in the past.
