Hello all, First post here but have been lurking soaking up info for a little while. I have a 75 f250 camper special with a 390 in it. I have to replace the intake gasket and I figured I would get rid of the 80 pound original that is on there. My question is what would be best The performer or Rpm from edelbrock, or maybe something from wieland, and can i jsut replace the intake with out having to make other upgrades right now?
Welcome to the forum! I know what you mean about soaking up info...there are some guys on here who are extremely knowledgeable. I would go with the rpm, it's everything the performer is and then some for not that much more $$. If you're replacing your intake you need headers to go with it. Otherwise you will notice very little change. Good luck!
I would be curious as to what heads your 390 has on it? probably the D2TE's...you will have to watch depending on the head for port Size.....and yes....More air in..you need to get the air back out....
I just saw a streetmaster on epay for $75 a day or 2 ago.....and its a better intake than the performer By far.... I dont recall what there getting for the RPM these day's...But it is a good heavy Vehicle choice.... Because of its split plenum...
And if I recall right the streetmaster is a single plenum...which will make the bottom end a little softer...But that can be corrected some to get some bottom end back with a 4 hole Carb spacer.... JMO...
If you're not going to hotrod the F250, just put a Performer on it. Or look for a Lowriser 427 single four intake. The RPM will also work, but might cost you more, depends on how good you are at hunting parts. If you have a 2 bbl now, you can always run it with a 4 bbl to 2 bbl adapter if you're strapped for cash.
I have the performer intake on my 74 f-250 right now and it has been great. I have ran this intake on a 360, 390, and 428scj and I have had great power and also pretty good gas mileage. Right now it is on my 390 and I am pulling 12 to 14 mpg. The carb is an edelbrock 600 cfm. good luck and hope which ever one you pick helps.
Thanks for all the input guys. I am not wanting to hotrod the truck, but i am not one to turn down hp either. This truck is mainly used for pulling my boat and a few trailers around. I have been trying to find headers that fit the camper special but the ones i have found say they won't fit because of the sway bar. Any ideas on how to fix that problem?

How redneck can you get....... Talk about bad fuel distrubution!! And people call me a redneck because I live in SoVA...LOL... Awww Geez..
I guess you STILL have reading comprehension difficulties,(you really ought to have that looked at ) Russ, REREAD the last sentence. And I'm PROUD to be called a Redneck.
Partly, the best manifold for a truck is the Blue Thunder 427MR. The streetmaster sucks when used on a truck. The streetmaster was the horsepower winner on a 428 in another forum, but only at a high rpm. Under 4500 rpms, the dual planes, like the blue thunder and the RPM performer and the sidewinder and F427 all had a clear advantage. As for the headers, some of the camper specials had some sway bar mounting stuff under the bed and many also had an extra fuel tank under the bed as well. Thats the stuff that gets in the way. Lots of camper specials don't have the problem. Neither of my trucks had any trouble with normal headers, but both of my '71s had an extra fuel tank under the bed, on the outside of the frame, in front of the rear tire. They don't really look like the tanks are from Ford. DinosaurFan, on his son's computer
Dino, thanks for the reply I have the rear sway bar and the extra tank. I dont have to have cats here so could i just make my own exhaust run it down one side and be ok? Or would that be too restictive with multiple bends to get it over to one side? I would run 2.5" pipe.

I also have this problem as I am updating my '73 F350 super camper special. I bought a set of headman headers and the first thing it said on the installation paper work was: "does not fit super camper specials" ..damn. There is a wealth of information on here, you came to the right place. Baddad suggested a pretty good set up for me and Im just looking for the right mechanic to make it happen. I went with an edelbrock dual plane manifold/holley 600 cfm vacuum secondaries/and ordered a 268H camshaft from comp cams. Apparently it will really help with the dynamic compression ratio and should (from what I read) boost that low end torque you're looking for. Im sure there are comparibly good cams, but I follow the word of the wise. Anyone wanna desktop dyno that set up with headers?

The point was a BD you advised him at the last too run a 4bbl adapter on a 2 bbl intake...... They thought that was cool back in the 50's.... But it doesnt make any more towing power....It is and has been a **** poor Idea... Thats why NO one run's them anymore.....
But thats right..I forgot you have all the answers, as uaual....He would be best off. If he strpped for cash just buying a used intake from a bone yard... But there are plenty of intakes on Epay....that are aluminum....For not much more than..a damn adapter that wont do *****....
Ya Russ, being that it's a no-brainer, I kinda figured BD meant run a 2V on a 4V intake while the OP saved up for a new carb.
Myself, I've blocked off the secondary side of my Holly until I could buy the secondary float and bowl. Poor? Yes! Cheesey? Yes! Get to work on time? You betcha! That was the year I would drain the lawnmower to go pick up my paycheck.
