I was advised i could clean my egr valve until i can replace it and it might improve my situation a bit (engine light..yeah it came back on..) but where is it located? how would i remove it? any special things i need to know? thanks in advance. -vin 90'f-150 xlt lariat I-six (4.9) efi
Look on the INTAKE MANIFOLD behind the throttle body.
it will look like a small pot with a flange on the side and a pipe on the other with a large nut. Vacuum line comes off the pot side.
You'll need a 1/2" socket and a 1-1/16" open end slugging wrench.
Make sure you use plenty of PB Blaster (or equivalent) on the large nut. This is a flare fitting from the exhaust and will have a bit of rust on the threads.
Get a new gasket from the local auto store (about $2.00). clean the EGR (INSIDE the pipe end) with a small bottle brush and carb cleaner.
