Quitting Cold

after my truck sits all night in 20-40 degree weather it will start and run for about 1/2 mile and then die. it will start back up after cranking on it for about 30 seconds and it idles really rough for about 30 seconds. after it warms up for 2 or 3 minutes it runs fine for the rest of the day. i have replaced the fuel filter.

try crossing the GPR with a wrench in the morning for about 30 sec while you have the key in the on position and see if that helps. maybe the glow plugs are not warming up good.

no smoke. it idles fine. it dies after i drive it for about 1/4 mile. if i let it idle for 5 or 10 minutes before i leave it will go ahead and run. i tried it this morning after changeing the fuel filter yesterday and it died again. i was wondering if the camsensor could cause this?

well when you are cranking it does the RPM needle move on the gauge or does it stay flat?

Kinda sounds like your CPS, but mine didnt have any consistancy when it went out. Mine died a couple of times in the same trip and then didn't die in the two days it took me before I could replace it.

I actually havent noticed the tack. when it first starts in the morning it will fire rite away after the gp light goes off. it idles fine but it dies after driving for a short distance. it acts like it is running out of fuel. but the filter housing is clean and i put a new filter in it. is there another filter on the frame?

yeah my CPS started acting up here and there and it kinda felt like what you are saying but it happened all the time so i just went to the dealer and for 25$ and a 10mm wrench and problem solved it seems funny that yours is only happening in the morning and then is fine for the rest of the day. but yours idles fine you could maybe look into the heating element in the fuel bowl is not working and the fuel is jelling up a little and cant keep up once you start trying to drive. maybe some of the other guys can come in here and help out.
