04 f-350 4x4 diesel....... A new problem arrose yesterday. Theres a grinding/vibrating noise from front passenger side when turning right. I went to check to make sure the hubs were not locked, and they werrent. I grabbed the hub and shook it a bit, noticed some slight play in it....
When you turn, you are adding new forces that are acting on the hub, that don't act on the hub while driving straight (or, at least, to a much smaller degree)
Nothing is set in stone here .... you have to lift the front up and take a good look.
That you felt play in the wheel is an indicator or a bad hub bearing. It is also an indicator of bad ball joints. But, a "grinding" noise sounds much more like a bearing going bad, than a suspension part.
But, this is all academic ..... you need to jack 'er up, and muscle things around.
thanx guys, I guess its pretty much narrowed down to the hub assembly...Ball joints are fine..they were checked out a few weeks ago...now, can one side be done and not the other if I wanted to switch out to manual hubs?
