Has anyone else heard a noise when turning steering only about 1/4 turn each way, that sounds like a very dry ready to bust Tie Rod? My steering is fine: new ball joints not long ago, greased regulary, no abnormalities. My friend has a '95 150 with the same noise. Also a guy I work with has an Excursion with the same damn noise. I have lubed every thing in the steering including most of the suspension! Any ideas???????????
I bought an "04 SD 4x4 Crew cab 7-07 with 103,00 miles on it. After about 2000 miles it started making a loud knocking sound when you turned to the left. It was driving me crazy as I could not locate the source of the noise. You could actually feel it through the floorboard. I spent about as much time under the truck as I did driving it. I did finally notice a bolt that is one of three that fastens the anti-sway bar upright rod to the frame was loose. There are 3 bolts, 2 on the bottom tab of the frame and one larger through the side of the frame. I could see a shiny spot where the larger bolt had been moving back and forth against the frame. I had my doubts such an apparently minor amount of movement could make such a sound. i figured I just as well tighten it anyway. Believe it or not NO MORE KNOCK. How that one bolt could make such a noise is beyond me. I"m not sure if this is your problem but thought I would post my experience. Best Regards, RandyB.
MarkVii,
Check your wheel bearings. These are known to go bad. Sealed and non adjustable- terrible design IMHO. Had them go out on my 2000 7.3 Only clue was a slight squeal/grind when I would take a corner and they were waaayyy shot!!
i had the same type of sound and come to find out my drivers side u-joint was binding up it needed to be replaced and now it seems to be fine hope this helps
Same problem with me mine....wheel bearing was shot. I heard that damn strange knock sound in the front end and the truck would pull to the right at certain speeds.
<TABLE><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="100%">i have a 01 X with 85k on it and had the same noise coming from the passenger side front when i accelerated and turned, basically when you are torquing the frame a bit, well after spraying the whole front end with WD40 and tightening everything the problem was the front body mount bushing on the pass side, just pull back the carpet on the pass side and you will see a hole with a cavity and in that cavity is a body mount bushing, just loosen the bolt and then crawl under vehicle with a pry bar and pry on the bushing while squirting the **** out of it with wd40, put bolt back in from top and that should do it, hope it works for ya, see ya jeff in okc
