Well, I'm 17, and looking for my first truck! Used to have a jeep that my parents gave me, but blew the motor on it (which yes I still have to pay for...). Always been a Ford boy, my dad loves em and of course tought us to love them to lol . He owns a 1997 F150, as well as a 1983 F150, which I drive right now, but it is in terrible shape, I love it cause it's loud, but motor has a lot of problems.
Anyways, the dealer has a 1980 F150 Ranger for sale. Wants $2400 for it, which I would have to do in payments of course, cause I'm not in a rich family .
Their site says it only has a 4 banger? I myself can't tell from the pic, but see if you can.
That is not a ford ranger grille in that truck plus the fact that the motor and trans has been changed to me says stay away.
That is a billet grille. I'm pretty sure that was a factory option. The truck has the Ranger XLT trim package.
It looks in pretty decent shape. It has the same trim and interior as my '81. Right down to the same aftermarket seat cover and rubber floormats!
You didn't fill out your "location." The car lot sign says "Huron." Are you in the northeast somewhere? Does your state have vehicle emissions inspections? Because if it does you are missing emissions equipment. I can see it has no PCV valve. If that's been butchered, probably a lot of other emissions equipment is missing too. I can't see the smog pump. Also FWIW, the air conditioning compressor is missing.
If it runs good and your state has no emission inspections, the missing stuff will be a good negotiation point to make the price more favorable to you.
I live in the midwest, South Dakota to be exact. No we do not have emission tests , or my dad's 83' would be to the junker by now. It has an aftermarket head unit, and I think the dash is in pretty bad shape from sitting in the sun too long. I looked at it at night, so it could of been shadows or something.
We are going to go look tomorrow at it
Thanks for that information, I will tell my dad about it, since he would know more about all that stuff, and maybe if we decide to get it he can talk down the price because of the flaws
Sounds like a lot of $ for a truck that is that old. From the pictures it seems a lot of work/modifications have been done. I'd take it for a ride to a local trusted mechanic and have him look at it. Then, offer $1800. Good luck, and let us know how you make out!
