Unhappy Defroster upgrade needed

Is there a cure for getting higher air flow to the defrosters? It seems that there is not enough CFM and it takes forever to defog my windshield. The temp is plenty hot, just not enough flow. I've checked for leaks, but everything seems ok. Is there a higher speed blower motor that can be swapped in? The heat works fine, but getting in and out with wet hunting clothes fogs up the windows and takes a long time to clear them off.

Fogged up in the Pacific Northwest....... Joe

Here is what I did to battle that one. If your truck has factory air, you can cut a small notch on the disc inside the heater controls where the A.C. switch makes contact. This will turn on your A.C. when you turn on your defrost. That is how all the newer vehicles work. The first job of an air conditioner is to remove moisture from the air. If you turn on the A.C and warm defrost at the same time, your windows will defrost very fast. Warm air can hold more moisture than cold air. By drying out the air then heating it, it will absorb moisture from your windows very fast. The key to defrosting your windows is to either remove the moisture and/or get the moisture in the air above the dew point.

If you don't have AC.

Turn your sun visors down so all the defrost air stays on the windshield

Thanks Dennis - I'll give it a shot. I'm going to check with a electric motor rebuilder and see if he can make a High Performance model out of a stock one. Maybe a market out there. Put on a billet housing and it will sell!!

Believe it or not... I have worn goggles when hunting in the mountains during wind/snow storms. Joe

Make the notch on the "A" part. If you look close, you will see a dip in the surface of the disc turning on the A.C. switch as you move the handle. Using a small bit in a dremel or something, cut a small "V" in the disc section under the switch arm when the handle is pointed to the "defrost" section. Make sure when you cut the "V", that you slope the sides enough to let the switch slide without binding. If you PM me your e-mail, I will dig it out and take a pic (it is not currently in the truck). I would post a pic it but I am still figuring out that part.

On another note. Be careful about upping the rpm's on the blower motor. Those type of blower wheels will cavitate and move less air if you increase the rpm's too much. Also those type of wheels are not designed to take much static pressure and will open up like a chinese lantern if you spin too may rpm's.

I would make sure there isn't a bunch of leaves or debris in the fresh air vent to the heater motor to make sure that is clear.

Also make sure any and all snow is cleared from the louvers on the cowl.
