I'm trying to find out about a special model '53-56 F100 that I believe was made as a railroad service truck. It looks like a crew cab but has only one door on the driver's side and conventional two doors on the passager side. I have seen this model in passing but haven't found anyone to speak directly to about the history etc. Thanks.
I saw one in a truckin magazine in the early 90s, but have not seen one since. The one I was was baby blue and they said it was originally made for the railroad. Yes...3 doors. Quite an interesting truck.
Thanks Brian! I actually think this particular truck is near where I live. It's tourquise and had a Truckin' front plate. I'll check with the magazine to see if they know more. Thanks again. Ed
Welcome to the finest and friendliest site on the net for old truck stuff.
I have seen some pics (its been years and I can't remember where) of a truck like you mentioned. Companies had to special order trucks with larger cabs. I don't think Ford offered it from their own factory until after 1967 (I may be wrong on that so don't hold me to it). We have several members here who have some information on early extended and specialty cabs, hopefully they will chime in and post some pics from early brochures (pics are always good)
Hey Ed, I seen one in Pigeon Forge in '96. The guy was from FL the truck was a blue '56. I helped him with his sunvisors. The truck was COOL I think I have some pictures of it somewhere. I'll look and see.
I worked at O'Gara, Hess & Eisenhardt in 90/91, they were still building Special Bodied Vehicles, I built a couple of very expensive Cadillacs.

I once owned a 1956 Cadillac "woodie" station wagon that was custom built by Hess & Eisenhardt...for....as I later found out: Burt Lancaster.
Those were the days...I paid $350.00 for it at the LA Auto Auction in the mid 1970's, and drove it home. Prolly worth 100 grand today.
