Question Water Pump

Well discovered the bad news about 10 minutes ago when I pulled the truck into the barn to see where all the fluid was coming from....the water pump is definitely leaking through the front seal. Is there anything special I should know before I dig into this project?. Thanks in advance.

Not really. The PSD waterpump is one of the easiest to do. Just have to have the correct fan clutch wrench. Once the fan and shroud are out of the way you have tons of room. Might as well get a new thermostat and new upper rad neck so you have half a chance of no leak when your done.

I'm going to be changing my waterpump soon also and was just wondering about that fan clutch wrench. I'm familiar with the 48mm wrench for the fan clutch, but I've also heard something about a holder wrench for the pulley. Does anybody know about or have a picture of one of these? If so, where does it attach? Otherwise I'm assuming that the serpentine belt will hold the pulley from turning while loosening the 48mm nut?

the belt won't hold the pulley enough to get the fan clutch lose you need a tool that goes over the bolts on the pulley your local car part store should have one.

I was told by a ford tech that a good 'pop' will jar the big nut loose. That's what I'm gonna try first.

This is the first time I saw a tool like that, I suppose it holds the screws in the pulley, right? Do you have the dimensions of it?, I would like to make one.

The long part is 24 inches long , the other one is 14 inches,.. It is made from 1/4 thick steel.. the angled notches are 9/16 of an inch wide & appear to be at about a 45 degree angle....

I made a wrench for the nut from 1/4 inch flat stock ,,

Talking

Thank you very much Action, I would like that you get it for me, but you know I live outside of your Country, so the problem is the border line (taxes, etc ) but thank for your offer. Three more questions:

1.- the 1/4 thick steel is 3/4 wide?
2.- How far is the hole for the ribet in the longest piece?
3.- Do you have a pic of the wrench for the nut from 1/4 inch flat stock?

What I meant was I can get the dimentions''

More here..The bars are 1 Inch wide , once you have them both made , all you need to do is line them up & drill a hole ,, put a nut & bolt in it & good to go
Look here ... for the wrench...

just to share my method of holding the pulley-

I used a strap wrench to keep the pulley from turning but it would still slip a little. I loosened up the strap wrench and then put a thin strip of doubled-over sandpaper between the wrench and the pulley. It worked great for the price.
