battery recommendations

I am ready to purchase new batteries. Just looking for some input on what kind everyone uses. Good brands? Bad brands? Any certain type these trucks like or don't like?

Thumbs up

i just put in two yellow top optimas in. now i can rock out tailgating at the stadium all day, and never worry about having enough juice to start my truck. pricey, but i'm happy so far.

I just put Centennial bateries in my truck about 2 months ago. They guy at the battery shop pretty much talked me out of wasting my money on the Optimas. He said that if your truck doesn't eat bateries than you pry arent going to notice or benefit from the use of Optimas. They were around 200 for the set they are the 65-85 with 850cca. Have been good bateries so far.

You have three real options. #1 Optima, expensive, but nice. #2 motocrafts, have not heard anything bad about them, and #3 any other battery(wally mart, diehard..etc) they are made by the same people and all have a warrenty.

Make sure they are 850CCA minimum. I went with diehards since kmart is the nearest place to get a battery lol.

Optima's are worth the money......especially when you are ten miles from any paved road!

Mines got the original motorcraft batteries in it (early 2001) and they still have more then enough power to start the engine in the 20 degree weather we've had lately. When they go, I plan to pick up another set of the same.

Interstate batteries, put in two and an alternator four years ago. I just put in two new Interstate batteries again for $212.33 with tax.

Those stock Motorcraft batteries are so tough, I've flogged mine since I bought the truck new and they are still going. Multiple full stereo discharges, bad GPR, and lights left on mistakes later, and they still work. I've got two new Red Top Optimas waiting....... but......

I'm curious as to how deep cycle batteries would perform long term in these trucks, as I've thought of going that route...... Any input out there?

optimas

if you run a optima deep cycle completely dead you have to blast it with 40+ amps to get it to charge again.. I run 2 yellow top optimas.. thats how i know.. other then that they are great..

Well, I put in Duralast Golds from AutoZoo back in April. 875/1000 CCA/CA -- so far so good. AZ is the closest place to get a batter for me ...

I second duralast gold's at Autozone. Had them for 8 month's now and have free replacement for three years, pro-rated replacement after that. A friend of mine works there and he said customers with plows, lights ect., have problems with the optima's lasting longer than a year. So if you run a bunch of accesories during winter you may want to keep that in mind.

The stock Motorcrafts are good batteries.
I have heard really good things about the Duralast battery line, but have no personal experience with them.
The only good thing about the Optimas as far as I am concerned is that they are small enough to both fit on one side of the engine compartment, making more room for mods. They have had really mixed reviews over the years here as far as how they last in our application.
Interstate is the only replacement battery I will buy.

The original owner replaced the Motorcrafts with Motorcrafts. They are still going strong, and when they die, I'll likely put in yet another set.

The dealerships sometimes run a special on them, and are very competitively-priced when they do.

Ive been running the motorcrafts in mine and had no problem, even after they completly died when my alternator went last dec. I will be getting a new pair of motorcrafts when they are needed.

I do plow, and have extra lights, and have a stereo system. Thanks for the heads up.
