98 Exploder 4X4 grindage
1998 Eddie Bauer 4X4 4.0L. So.... a friend's daughter loaned her truck out and began having problems with her 4X4 shortly after. In "auto" there's a terrible grinding noise from the t-case in reverse. Same story in "4-hi". In "4-lo", the problem goes away. Is this one of the models with the all time 4wd? From reading on here, I'm thinking t-case motor. A quick search did not bring any info on servicing this motor. The lights seem to be functioning properly. Between 4lo and 4hi I do not hear the t-case "clunk" I hear on my 01 F250, but I do hear the relay clicking. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Forgot to mention that I can feel the difference btwn 4lo and 4hi so the t-case motor is working I think.

Guess I should have also mentioned that I changed the fluid with no improvement. Is there another component I'm not thinking of? How hard is it to remove the t-case and inspect for damage?
